Translator Training and Literacy Books
Months of preparation are now nearing completion, and it is time to start the first of three two-week sessions of Translators’ Training Course 1 for new translators in the Solos and Petats languages. In the last newsletter we rejoiced that we were aiming for 12-15 new Solos translators and adding four new Petats translators. The committee has been working hard on awareness, and now we have 35 new translators signed up!
Pray for these men and women as they come to the course, which starts on Monday, 26 August, and runs for two weeks, with the second and third sessions to follow in October and November. They have much to learn, and a lot of work to do to become skilled translators and writers in their languages.
Our first six literacy books, the alphabet book, and a trial spelling guide also just got back from the printshop on Friday, so we sorted them over the weekend (more pictures on the Back Page). These are small books, but the total of 5,000 of them really adds up to quite a pile. Now we’re working out logistics for how to get them out to Buka. We also had a few misprints (less than 20), so the printshop is handling that.
Solos Literacy Book Project
If you or your group (Sunday School, VBS, club, etc.) would like to sponsor literacy books in Solos, contact Church of God (Holiness) World Missions at: roxene.lo@coghworldmissions.org. 700 copies of each book (about 30 per elementary school) can be printed and distributed for about $350 to $800 per title, depending on the length of each book.
