Focus Week: October 21-27

As the Director of World Missions for the Churches of God (Holiness) for over two months now, I would like to share my vision for what I believe the Holy Spirit has in store for the future of COGH World Missions.

My vision is to see:

  • An increased enthusiasm for souls to be saved;

  • More missionary couples and individuals from our churches accepting God’s call; and

  • An increase in giving—both in dollars and in numbers of churches within our association who participate.

Andew Murray, in his book Key to the Missionary Problem, implies that increased enthusiasm for the KING leads to increased enthusiasm to reach our world for Christ.

A holiness preacher of old felt we lose focus of the Great Commission when we lose focus of what holiness is, and, as we know, a true experience of holiness causes one to have a desire to reach this world for Christ . . . to be witnesses in our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost part of the world.

THE QUESTION:

What can we do to see this vision brought to reality? What can be done to stimulate the spiritual life of our churches so that the missionary cause will see an increase in hearty enthusiasm and support that it deserves?

THE ANSWER:

There is an answer! I have hope that, with the help of the Holy Spirit, a passion to reach this world for Jesus Christ will be a passion for all the Churches of God (Holiness)! With His help, every pastor and every church member can be active participants in obeying God’s command to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus Christ has commanded us.

THE CHALLENGE:

While in Myanmar a few weeks ago, one of the leaders of the church there shared, “The military and Freedom Fighters are at war with each other. For this reason, we feel we are in a state of war every moment of every day.” In a way, this is how we as Christians should be living. We are in a spiritual war, and the way we live our lives and do ministry must reflect this understanding.

THE PLAN:

I invite you to join me in Focus Week, seven days of prayer and fasting—that for one week we would join our hearts in prayer, asking God to infuse our churches with His Holy Spirit that will cause us all to have a desire to be globally involved in reaching our world for Christ.

This special week of prayer and fasting will be October 21-27. For these seven days, I will send you seven devotions, as well as items for prayer that focus on COGH World Missions. You select one meal each day that you will fast and pray.

If you are interested in joining me for Focus Week from October 21-27, contact me or send me a note at:
