A fire crackles orange and smokes black in the sunshine as a Ghanaian family watches their idols incinerate, an unmistakable testimony to fellow villagers of their choice to follow Jesus.
Balloons, party horns, and cake: Roma children celebrate hearing about Jesus’ birth for the first time at the House of Hope community center in Tirana, Albania. By this and other means, the Wait family seeks to be living illustrations of Christ’s love to the poorest of the poor.
On Easter Sunday in the mountains of Bolivia, sixty-two churches participate in a parade. Trumpets and drums sound into the afternoon air, and women in their traditional shawls and flowing skirts march with the men behind the banner of their church. These churches reflect only one region of the national organization. The denomination as a whole has a goal of reaching 200 churches by the year 2020, and they bathe their efforts in prayer.
These are only a few examples of the work of World Missions. More could be given, including years and numbers of churches and the names of missionaries. Is this what it means to leave our mark on the world? Perhaps.
But perhaps the goal of missions isn’t about us making our mark at all. Maybe, instead, it is simply being available to be used as a part of God’s plan to reach the world, becoming His hands and His feet, allowing Him to influence the world—or make His mark—through us. After all, as Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”
Please join in our Annual Offering and Day of Prayer on Harvest Sunday, November 11. Through focused prayer and fasting, we want to ask the Father to help us, the Church of God (Holiness), to continue being His hands and feet in our hurting world.
Your prayers and donations make our ministries possible. Thank you!
